I am a geographer and institutional changemaker who analyzes and calls attention to the role of economic, political, and social power in the science surrounding environmental policy and infrastructure — especially energy, waste, transit, and data. My approach draws on 1) insights from political ecology, critical energy studies, and discard (waste) studies, 2) my training in community development, and 3) my experiences with nonprofit organizations and campaigns to advance more just, inclusive, and democratically-envisioned institutions and environments. I am a former Marshall Plan scholar, Herbert York fellow, and Ernst Mach scholar. I hold affiliations with the UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy; the UC Center for Climate Justice; and the UC Santa Cruz Institute for Social Transformation.
